Two new games based on the original 1978 horror classic Halloween are being developed at Boss Team Games, the developers of the 2022’s asymmetric multiplayer title Evil Dead: The Game.
Both games are being developed in collaboration with the producers of the Halloween franchise, according to an exclusive IGN report. In addition, one of the games is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, and will include input from original director John Carpenter.
Carpenter will be “intimately involved” with the development of the new project, saying:
As a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly.
According to the official release, the games will allow players to “relive moments from the film and play as classic characterse from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.” The two new games are being developed in collaboration with Compass International Pictures and Further Front. The Unreal Engine 5 project is still in early stages of development.
Regarding the two upcoming projects, Boss Team Games CEO Steve Harris said:
Everyone at Boss Team Games are huge fans of horror and Halloween obviously holds a special place in the hearts of all horror fans. Getting to work with iconic characters like Michael Myers and build on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true. Everyone at Boss Team is thrilled and honored to be working with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience that fans of the movie and video games will love.
Besides an official release for the Atari 2600 in 1983 by Wizard Video and the unlicensed inclusion of Michael Myers in the Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen series (a fan-made fighting game for the PC by Huracan Studio), there haven’t been very many Halloween games. Thankfully, that’s won’t be the case for much longer.
No release or platforms have been announced yet, but we’ll keep you updated as soon as we have more information of these two Halloween upcoming games.
