While we’re excited to see Ali Larter (Claire Redfield) returning to the newest Resident Evil film, tweets from two of the previous film’s (Resident Evil: Retribution) co-stars confirm that they won’t be joining her for the latest edition to Paul W.S. Anderson’s ongoing film franchise, The Final Chapter.
It’s unknown if this means the characters Johann Urb and Aryana Engineer played (Leon Kennedy and Becky, respectively) will be returning with different actors, considering that they where both major parts of the previous film’s plot. Becky especially, being surrogate cloned daughter of series lead, Alice Abernathy, seems like an odd choice to simply cut out of the film entirely, but perhaps Aryana Engineer has simply been replaced considering how much the actress will have grown up since the previous film (she was 11 in the previous film, and will be at least 16 by the time filming officially begins for The Final Chapter).
As for Johann Urb, Retribution‘s Leon, while I was fine with the casting I’ll honestly be glad to see their take on the character go. They turned the brave and almost heroic video game character Leon S. Kennedy – who even took a bullet for another character – into a guy that actually tries to talk Alice out of saving the aforementioned Becky from a fate that was honestly pretty horrible, because she “wasn’t part of the mission”. Dick.
I suppose time will tell, as Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is still set for a January 27th, 2017 release.
