After a few years of complications and delays, the procedurally generated first-person survival horror game Monstrum finally has a confirmed console release date. Developers Team JunkFish and publisher Soedesco have announced that Monstrum is not only launching on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as originally planned but is also coming out for Nintendo Switch on the same date.
The digital version is set to release on May 22nd, 2020, with the physical release being delayed indefinitely due to COVID-19 related complications which have impacted physical supply manufacturers.
For those unfamiliar, Monstrum launched on PC back in 2015 to mostly positive reviews, and the console versions have been in the works for quite some time. The game takes place on an abandoned cargo ship at sea and features a randomly generated ship layout every time you play, as well as random item placement and randomized monster traits.
Naturally, it also features permadeath and no save points, so you truly start from the beginning each time you die. There is no way to defend yourself against the persistent monsters, only ways to distract and slow down your pursuer while you run to your escape, giving it some strong Alien Isolation vibes.
