While we all wait for the inevitable official announcement of Left 4 Dead 3 from Valve, indie dev studio Monochrome LLC is working hard on a brand-new co-op horror game for Steam, Contagion. Featuring single or up to 8 players, randomly generating ammo and other supplies, branching objectives that keep the game feeling fresh (even after playing the same area), and full integration with SteamWorks (ie, Trading Cards, Achievements etc.), Contagion is looking to sit nicely in between Left 4 Dead and Killing Floor.
Whether playing as a human and struggling to reach objectives together with friends and blasting through seemingly endless waves of infected, or taking the part of the zombie and hunting down the human players to fill your rotting belly while employing nifty tricks to get behind enemy lines (my favorite being the ability to switch control between yourself and an AI for your zombie so as to blend in with the crowd better, leaving the human players guessing as to which of the beasts poses the greatest threat). This reminds me of Assassin’s Creed‘s multiplayer in a way.
The game is now on Kickstarter, and has reached about 1/5th of their $50,000 goal at the time of this writing, and it’s still counting. They have to make their goal by the 13th of October to actually be used. So if you’re looking forward to this, help support it! And remember the awesome bonuses that’ll be awarded for bigger contributions!
