‘I Hate This Place’ Brings Open-World Survival Horror in 2025

I Hate This Place

The Future Games Show just dropped a chilling new announcement — I Hate This Place, an open-world survival horror game that looks like a blend of psychological terror, brutal combat, and immersive exploration. Developed by Rock Square Thunder, a Polish studio formed by ex-Bloober Team developers, the game is being published under Broken Mirror Games, a new horror-focused label from Bloober Team.

Add in Skybound Entertainment, the multimedia powerhouse behind The Walking Dead, and you’ve got a team that knows how to craft truly terrifying experiences.

This isn’t just another survival horror game — I Hate This Place is based on the 2022 comic series of the same name, written by Kyle Starks and illustrated by Artyom Topilin. The game leans into Topilin’s distinct ’80s comic book aesthetic, giving it a stylized, nightmarish atmosphere unlike anything else in the genre.

Players take on the role of Elena, a woman who has inadvertently awakened an ancient, malevolent force. Among the horrors lurking in the game’s open world is the Horned Man, an ominous entity that must be avoided at all costs. While some encounters can be fled, others will require fierce melee and gun combat, rewarding quick thinking and adaptability over brute force.

At its core, I Hate This Place is about survival, meaning crafting and exploration play a massive role. The open world isn’t just for show — the environment will react dynamically to the player’s actions, with a day-night cycle that impacts gameplay in unexpected ways. Whether that means certain threats only emerging at night or environmental shifts affecting survival tactics, one thing is clear: no place is truly safe.

I Hate This Place

With a team consisting of horror veterans, a compelling comic book foundation, and an emphasis on survival-driven gameplay, I Hate This Place is shaping up to be a must-watch title for horror fans. More details are expected later this year, but if the first teaser trailer is anything to go by, players should prepare for one of the most haunting survival horror experiences of 2025.

Set for a Q4 2025 release, I Hate This Place will be available on PC (Steam & Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and even the Nintendo Switch.
