Unfortunately, the arcade scene isn’t what it used to be anymore. If you have ever happened to stumble into an arcade in the last few years, chances are you might have encountered a House of the Dead game, seeing how the franchise is easily one of the biggest IPs in the arcade shooter genre. Sega has recently announced via Twitter that House of the Dead Scarlet Dawn will be coming to western arcades.
For the unfamiliar, House of the Dead Scarlet Dawn was announced back in January when the game started making its way in Akihabara arcades. Much like its predecessors, Scarlet Dawn seems to continue the trend of amping up on the number of guns and zombies present, as the beginning stages already feature large crowds of undead and players begin with submachine guns. Although it has been quite a long time since the release of a House of the Dead game, all of the tropes of arcade shooters are still present and are drenched in cheesy writing and awful dialogue — which is amazing if you are into that.
Sega has yet to specify when exactly the game will be coming, but as a fan of this niche series, it’s nice to know that it won’t be stuck in Japanese arcades for years to come.
