Some of you may not remember this, but there was an era in which you had to actually leave the house in order to play video games. Thankfully that isn’t the case anymore, but I still have a soft spot for arcades and I hope that they can continue to live on. Fortunately, one of the most notorious arcade shooters, The House Of The Dead, is receiving a new entry after years of dormancy.
House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn will be heading to Japanese arcades at some point in 2018 and will soon begin testing in Akihabara. It will feature many of the technological advancements that many other arcade shooters received in the many years since House Of The Dead 4. These include wind and vibration effects, as well as something ‘special’ for when the cabinet detects someone walking by the newly enclosed environment. As for monsters? Of course zombies are the bread and butter of the series. They will return, alongside some worm-leech monsters and an ax-wielding robot….thing.
Hopefully, this new game will come to western arcades at some point in the foreseeable future. Oftentimes, major arcade games in Japan — such as Dissidia: Final Fantasy — remained exclusive to Japan for entirely too long. Fortunately, House Of The Dead always released in the west up until this point. We have seen the release of console versions of many entries in the series since the last major installment, so there is a good chance this new entry will manifest in other regions in some shape or form.
You can view some still screenshots of the game in the video below.
