Despite myriad guest appearances in games like Mortal Kombat, there somehow hasn’t been a dedicated fighting game for horror icons. Darkstalkers was a colorful first draft in the 90s, but sadly it never caught on. Then a few years ago a little indie project by the name of Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen picked up some attention. It was a 2D fighter distributed for free that featured the likeness of multiple cinematic horror icons such as Ash Williams, Michael Myers, and Pinhead.
Now that same team is working on a sequel. Titled Terrordrome: Reign of the Legends, it doesn’t have the same copyrighted fighters as the first entry, but the team behind the game, Huracan Studio, are looking to make it a big deal all the same. Featuring classic monsters such as Frankenstien and Sasquatch this time around, the game has recently launched a Kickstarter, and honestly it looks pretty promising.
The developer has also released a trailer for the game, which sets up some of the world and characters, and offers some pretty nice looking gameplay. In the trailer we see Frankenstien facing off against Sasquatch in a dilapidated cemetery environment. We also get glimpses of other characters coming to the game, including Van Helsing, Dracula, and the original fighter Neverman. Think Slenderman but actually scary looking.
You can take a look at the promising first trailer down below.
There’s no release date or window set for Terrordrome yet; the game still needs to get funded. I sincerely hope the devs can launch the franchise they’re aiming for here because I seriously could use a horror fighting game. Who knows, if this project gets some traction, maybe seeing Pinhead and Leatherface in a more official capacity wouldn’t be so far fetched.
