Silent Hill: Shattered Memories writer Sam Barlow will be releasing his first game as an independent developer on June 24th. Her Story will have a simultaneous release on PC, Mac, and iOS devices. A brand new trailer has been released as well to announce the release.
Her Story sets out to be an “interactive crime documentary” about a woman accused of murder in 1994 Britain when her husband mysteriously disappears. Players uncover the mystery by searching through a police database and piecing together live-action interviews with the accused, and connecting the dots based on what new details are found.
“My passion is to do for games what True Detective did for the cop show and what Serial did for the true crime podcast. Both those shows expanded what is expected of the crime genre whilst entertaining a broad audience. Likewise, Her Story is scratching a deeper itch than most games that explore police work… but at the same time anyone can pick it up and play,” said Barlow.
An interactive crime drama with FMVs is certainly something fresh. I look forward to giving the game a try later this month.
