It seems that survival horror games that feature an open world are pretty hot lately, but if there’s still room in your Steam library besides DayZ, Rust, and 7 Days To Die, then maybe Grave is worth considering.
The game tasks you with exploring a surreal wasteland that is procedurally generated each time you play. During the day, you can safely scavenge, explore and craft to your liking, but once the sun goes down, an army of horrifying monsters will rise from their hideouts and hunt you down. These creatures are afraid of light, though, so you can use a variety of sources to keep them at bay or reduce them to ashes. The monsters themselves are also capable of tracking the player down through the noise he or she makes and then stalk them thanks to the sophisticated AI used in the game.
The studio working on this title is led by Tristan Parrish Moore, whose bio states that he has worked on a variety of games and movies, including Afro Samurai and Legacy of Kain, but he doesn’t appear to be listed on Mobygames for any of the titles it mentions. He also recently attempted to Kickstart The Afflicted, but that campaign failed with only $410 raised. I sincerely hope this project will go a lot better, though, since Grave looks legitimately cool and I like the idea of a horror game where the enemies actively try to stalk you. The way light functions as your means of defense also sounds intriguing to me and if the rest of the monsters look as good as that ugly chap above this article, then that would be fantastic too.
At the time of writing, Grave has raised a total of $907, which is about 3% of their $30,000 goal. You can support the game by donating money via Kickstarter or voting for it on Steam Greenlight.
