Gone Home by way of Amnesia

Highlighting an interesting occurrence between developers, Thomas Grip and Steve Gaynor, from Frictional Games and the Fullbright Company respectively, have shared a dialogue between the two from as far back as January 2012.

Steve Gaynor originally wanted to use Amnesia‘s HPL2 engine to power Gone Home, and e-mailed Thomas to ask if it would be allowed. While he was denied, he had already made a proof of concept for the game using HPL2. This “demo” is now available for all to play.  You can find it at that cute little link at the bottom of this post.  Pretty interesting stuff!  Though it’s rough, you can definitely see the origin’s of Gone Home here.

Though it only sort of masquerades as a horror game, Gone Home is definitely worth your time. It’s 50% off on Steam right now ($9.99) and even caused our own CJ Melendez to experience some semblance of emotion. For that alone, it’s a beautiful work of art.
