One of the most acclaimed Lovecraftian horror games ever made has received new life. Good Old Games (GOG) have released Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth on their store, complete with various fixes, V-sync functionality, and more to get it working on modern PCs. The game has been available on Steam, but a glance at user reviews suggest compatibility is hit or miss. GOG has worked to improve the overall experience “out of the box”.
For those unfamiliar, the game is a first-person horror with investigation mechanics, dynamic mental afflictions, and directly inspired Lovecraft characters. It’s not a looker by today’s standards, but if you ask me it holds up and benefits from the low-poly look.
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is a much-loved horror game and one I’ve had recommended to me time and time again. Seeing it re-release with official fixes included, and as a DRM-free copy, for just $4.99 is a pretty tempting package.
