After being announced in 2019, Ghostwire Tokyo has been highly awaited by many Tango Gameworks fans for its unique view of a haunted, futuristic Tokyo, but it looks like we’ll have to wait just a little while longer to get our hands on the game.
Tango announced earlier today that the game will be pushed back from its original targeted 2021 release window to 2022, citing that they want to “protect the employees’ health.” Their statement doesn’t confirm whether this decision is due to the currently escalating COVID situation in Japan or to avoid a crunch for their employees. Either way, it seems to be the right decision.
Tango’s announcement also states they “can’t wait to show us more in the coming months,” hinting that we’ll be seeing more of what Ghostwire is all about pretty soon. This is good news since the footage that’s been released so far is a bit sparse. The developer also said that while Ghostwire Tokyo will have horror themes and motifs, it will mostly be an action-adventure game, so it will be interesting to see how much of a horror game this ends up being in the end.
While the game was originally announced for PS5 and PC, it was later confirmed that the PS5 release would be a timed exclusive and would be heading to the Xbox ecosystem shortly after its PS5 release, so more people will get to enjoy the game.
We hope to be able to delve into Ghostwire sooner rather than later to see what Tango has been cooking up the last few years. Hopefully, they have a few tricks up their sleeve. Stay tuned for more announcements.
