Horror adventure indie game Lucius is back for a third installment. During all of the hullabaloo of Gamescom, a subdued trailer from Developer Shiver Games quietly arrived.
Developers describe the synopsis as follows: “Lucius is back. In a whole new narrative experience, he now returns to his old neighborhood of Winter Hill. The path will be a difficult one, with trials and tribulations waiting ahead. Has he made the right choices? Is it finally time to end it all?”
Where to begin with this trailer…well, there’s an interconnected mystery to solve and lots and lots of death on display here. The violence and methodology seem to be deeply rooted in American nationalism and religion, with American flags being engulfed in flames. Supernatural forces remove one man’s skullcap, while the Ku Klux Klan lynches a black man in the next scene.
The trailer seems to imply that due to malevolent influence, violence is escalating and will only intensify if the source is not destroyed. I’ll be honest. There are serious Omen and Children of the Corn movie vibes here. Besides a few frame-rate issues in the trailer and some of the character models looking wooden, I’m intrigued by the story and its artistic palette. Besides, a flame-wielding child never fails to impress.
Lucius 3 is set to release this year on Steam.
