A YouTube channel has released a long video showing the full campaign of the Until Dawn prototype for PS3. This version of the game was originally created by Supermassive Games and even featured support for the PlayStation Move peripheral.
The prototype was canceled in favor of the PS4 version, which was released two years later in 2015. The final PS4 game became a huge success and led to more narrative-driven teen horror games with quick time events, choice-based gameplay, and consequences.
The video, which was recovered in an unknown way, shows that the adventure was originally designed with a first-person perspective to increase immersion, especially with the motion-sensing controls.
The gameplay footage reveals temporary dialogues, rough assets, and missing elements, but the foundation was essentially the same as what we later saw on PS4. This is an extremely interesting glimpse into the game’s early development.
In other news, the Until Dawn movie will be hitting theaters on April 24th. This movie is seen as a confirmation of the enduring success of the franchise, which has lasted longer than many expected.
