Well, what do we have here? The Friday the 13th license hits video games once more this year with Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle, a new mobile game from the creators of Slayaway Camp. If that doesn’t interest you, you haven’t been paying attention. The game is a simple but addictive isometric puzzler in which you slide your murdered on a board to scare and kill teens. The deaths are wonderfully gory and blocky.
The creators behind the hit slasher horror puzzler Slayaway Camp has announced today that Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle will release sometime in 2018 initially on mobile devices. The game is based on an improved version of their Slayaway Camp engine and puts players under the mask of Jason Voorhees himself for over 100 puzzles. The game is said to have levels from throughout the film series. There may even be some Jason X action as “outer space” is listed among locations!
“I loved the balance of horror and humor the Blue Wizard guys brought to Slayaway Camp,” said Friday the 13th series creator Sean Cunningham, “and I’m thrilled to see their take on Friday the 13th.”
“Though it might surprise PopCap players, I’m a lifelong hardcore horror fan,” said Blue Wizard founder Jason Kapalka. “But it’s pretty hard to make a terrifying game on your phone! As with Plants vs Zombies, we’re taking a more playful, tongue-in-cheek approach than is usual for Friday the 13th, while still paying genuine tribute to all those classic films.”
Developer Blue Wizard Digital is staffed by talent behind Bejeweled and Plants vs Zombies. Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle will be a free-to-play title with optional in-game purchases that won’t be “obnoxious money grabs”, according to founder Kapalka. Sounds good to me. More Jason the merrier.
