If you’re the type of person who cranks up the volume and plays horror games in the dark just to feel something, you’re going to want to keep an eye on Fractured Mind.
This newly announced psychological horror game from indie developer ACid is drawing comparisons to Resident Evil and P.T., and for good reason. Set to hit Steam Early Access in Q2 2025, Fractured Mind blends photorealistic visuals with tense exploration, shooting mechanics, and cryptic puzzles, all wrapped in a disturbing bodycam-style presentation that makes every step feel skin-crawlingly real.
Let’s break this down: P.T., the infamous playable teaser for Silent Hills, may have been short-lived, but it left a permanent scar on the genre. Even nearly a decade later, its impact still echoes in indie and AAA horror alike. Then came Resident Evil 7, which took that first-person dread and turned it into a full-blown survival horror masterpiece.
In Fractured Mind, you explore an abandoned underground metro station, slowly uncovering the grim reality behind its eerie silence. Expect puzzles, environmental storytelling, and psychological unease as things go from bad to worse. ACid is keeping the plot details close to the chest, with the game’s Steam page offering only cryptic hints about what’s really going on.
Game Features:
- This is a PT inspired psychological horror game, with a bodycam style (shocking, I know, there aren’t a lot of those lately…). It’s ~25-35 minutes of gameplay.
- The full game will be over 1 hour, I don’t know for sure the full length yet.
- It’s a fairly simple and straightforward game, with a heavy focus on atmosphere. There are also puzzles and shooting elements (which will be expanded upon in the full build).
- The HUD is almost entirely non existent, with the exception of the crosshair which appears only when looking at interactable items.
- There is no hand-holding in this game. While not difficult by any means, you do need to pay attention to some things.
When the game hits Early Access, the first full chapter will be free. It includes two endings, core gameplay mechanics, and a sizable chunk of the narrative. ACid notes that while this chapter is “pretty much complete,” things may evolve before the final version drops. Later chapters will expand the story to about an hour in length and transition the title into a paid release — but no price point has been announced yet.
There’s already a demo available on Steam for those who want to dip their toe into the madness early. And let’s be honest, if you’ve been hungry for something that scratches that P.T. or Resident Evil 7 itch, Fractured Mind might be the next game for you.
