Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Movie Officially Announced, First Teaser Released and Release Date Set

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Officially Announced, First Teaser Released and Theater Date Set

The much-anticipated sequel to the Five Nights at Freddy movie was officially announced during CinemaCon 2025, along with the release of the first teaser trailer. Jason Blum, the film’s producer, confirmed that the sequel will hit theaters on December 5th. This is in contrast to the first film, which was released both in theaters and simultaneously on the Peacock streaming service in 2023.

The idea for a sequel began in 2018, when Scott Cawthon, the creator of the video game series, suggested that a second movie could happen if the first one was successful. In January 2024, Josh Hutcherson, who played Mike Schmidt in the first movie, revealed that discussions for a sequel were ongoing.

Following this, Blumhouse officially started production, confirming the return of the main actors from the first film, including Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard. New cast members, including Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, and Teo Briones, were also announced, though their roles remain a mystery.

Filming for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 began in November 2024 and finished in February 2025. The film is currently in post-production and is on track for its December 2025 theater release. The first film was a huge success, grossing over $300 million at the box office despite its simultaneous release on Peacock, with a relatively small budget of $20 million.
