The first trailer for the live-action film adaptation of 5pb Games’ Corpse Party series of horror visual novels has debuted, and boy is it a doozy.
Anyone who might be worried that the film might stray away from the graphic ultra-violence and frightening visuals Corpse Party is infamous for can rest easy, as this short preview contains enough proof that the movie will retain the series’ tense, classical Eastern-horror atmosphere.
Headlining the film is Japanese popstar Rin Ikoma of AKB48 fame, who’s trading in her flashy idol costumes for a schoolgirl uniform in her role as Naomi Nakashima, a third-year student who must survive various haunted goings-on while trapped in a haunted high school. Seasoned horror director Masafumi Yamada is helming the film with 5pb themselves being involved in production, which bodes very well for it living up to fans’ expectations.
The release of the Corpse Party movie on August 1st coincides with that of an enhanced 3DS remake of the first game on July 30th, so it’s looking as though that will be a pretty darn good week for Japanese Corpse Party fans.
