S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2’s development team seemingly can’t catch a break. A fire destroyed an entire floor of GSC Game World’s Prague offices on the night of September 7th.
Czech news outlet Vortex initially reported on sources claiming a fire had broken out on one of the floors of the GSC Game World studios in Prague, where the team had partially relocated after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
GSC business development manager Olga Ryzhko later confirmed the incident, noting with great relief that nobody was injured in the fire.
The fire, which apparently was caused by an electrical installation, was extinguished by five fire units responding to the emergency. Despite having been able to extinguish the fire in the building, “one of the floors of the office now requires complete reconstruction”, Ryzhko told Vortex. The damage, accoring to numbers from Vortex’ article, is currently estimated to be in the range of 1.5 million CZK ($66,000 USD).
According to a post by a GSC Game World member on Discord, the incident will not affect the team’s willingness to finish and release S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2, noting that “No anomaly, not even a ‘Burner’, will make us stop in our pursuit of our final goal. We’ve dealt with worse than that before. This is fine.”
Here’s hoping the development team can finish work on the game without any other incidents, there certainly have been enough.
After a recent delay, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 is now set to release in Q1 of 2024 on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Microsoft Store and Xbox Series S|X.
