Following up on the massive success of Resident Evil 2 Remake, all eyes have been on Capcom and what they plan to remake next. From Dino Crisis to Resident Evil 4 (which is looking very likely, actually), tons of potential projects leaped out at fans who were hopeful to see their favorites get the same treatment. One game, in particular, is 2000’s Resident Evil — Code: Veronica, took a very high place on that wishlist… but thus far it looks sadly not to be on Capcom’s. Much like Dino Crisis, however, fans have decided to take this into their own hands, and remake it themselves. Enter: Resident Evil — Code: Veronica Remake, a fan project that aims to both faithfully recreate the original game as well as update and expand it along the same lines as the first and second Resident Evil remakes.
Developed by (from what I can gather) a two-person team, the game is shockingly robust already, with much of the game’s first hour or so already modeled and (based on footage) playable. While it’s still a bit rough around the edges, the amount of work put into recreating and detailing these classic locations is staggering. From carefully recreated layouts and items to updated looks and presentation, I’m already eager to give this a spin. Thankfully, it looks like we won’t have too much longer to wait, at least for this opening section; according to the project’s Twitter, the first chapter will be released this summer!

I am a bit curious about that ‘1/4’ noted here, as Code: Veronica is a simply massive game, and easily the longest of the classic Resident Evil games. You can find more information on the game’s website, with tons of screenshots and details to pour over. We’ll be first in line to give this game a spin, so we’ll keep you updated!
In the meantime, if you’re looking to play an official release, Resident Evil Village just released and RE:Verse is due out this summer!
