Monstrum is a procedurally generated survival horror game that takes place on a derelict ship. Players have to navigate this randomized maze, find tools to help them out and use their cunning to avoid a monstrous pursuer.
Monstrum comes to use from Team Junkfish, who have previously worked on three different titles: a 3D shoot ’em up, a puzzle game about terrain manipulation and an augmented reality title for iPad devices. Judging by the description on the game’s Facebook page, it will also allow players to “lure” the monster away, which sounds like a pretty cool mechanic. It also states that players have to deal with traps, which I also really like.
The reveal trailer below doesn’t really show the monster, but as a fan of Junji Ito’s works, I sincerely hope it will be some kind of deep-sea nightmare fish on legs. Monstrum is scheduled for release in Q3 for Windows, Mac and Linux.
