Everything Announced so Far about Call of Duty Black Ops IIII’s Zombies Mode

Call of Duty Black Ops IIII's Zombies Mode

Treyarch certainly went all out at the recent Call of Duty Community reveal event. While no official gameplay of Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII’s Zombies Mode was shown, there is still a lot to talk about, so here is a recap of all of the Zombies news announced.

Black Ops IIII will be the first Call of Duty game to launch with three Zombies maps at launch. These maps include IX, a gladiator themed stage, and Voyage of Despair, which takes place on the Titanic. The final stage announced is titled Blood of the Dead, which will be a return to Alcatraz from Black Ops II‘s Mob of the Dead map.

Both the IX and Voyage of the Dead will be the beginning of an entirely new cast and storyline, separate from the on-going one from World at War to Black Ops III. However, Blood of the Dead will feature the ‘Primis’ version of the original cast; Tank, Nikolai, Takeo, and Richtofen as seen in Black Ops IIII. This raises the question of whether or not the original storyline will be continued to some extent.

Treyarch also expressed plans to make Zombies “more approachable”. Immediately following this, Treyarch announced features like bot support for solo players and a new Zombie Rush mode. No specifics were given for Zombie Rush, but supposedly the mode will provide a “simplified experience”. My guess is that the mode will focus on survival as opposed to the easter egg quest lines that plagued Black Ops II and Black Ops III. Furthermore, in the pursuit of creating as much replayability as possible, a Custom Mutations feature was announced, allowing players to change elements like zombie speed, health, and various other components, similar to what can be seen in the Halo franchise.

It was also mentioned that the original Zombies characters would be featured in the new Battle Royal mode, although no specific details were given.

Overall, I have mixed feelings about the news. I like some of the ideas presented, but I will need to see the game in action before I make any judgments. In the meantime, you can read my recent opinion piece on Call of Duty Zombies (World at War to Black Ops III).
