In an interview with GamesIndustry, Dennis Dyack from Silicon Knights, the folks behind the horror masterpiece Eternal Darkness teased the gaming community at large with the following.
We’re really excited and we’re working on our next generation stuff. We’re working on an IP that’s our most requested and we’re really excited about that….
…We’re going back to our roots. I’m really looking forward to a point in time when we can talk about it.
Vague, but a little detective work can help us figure out which IP Dyack’s referring to. Legacy of Kain was initially a Silicon Knights IP, but after a court settlement lost the rights to publisher Crystal Dynamics. Crystal Dynamics merged Legacy of Kain with third-person action-adventure title Shifter, producing the game we now know as Soul Reaver. Soul Reaver is already rumoured to be in production at Crystal Dynamics and its doubtful that Crystal Dynamics and Silicon Knights would be cooperate on a major project such as this.
Then there’s also the Too Human franchise. It has its fans, but it’s seriously doubtful that ‘going back to its roots’ would imply a Too Human sequel or reboot. Also…just…no.
That would leave Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. The game has become a cult favourite among horror gaming enthusiasts and was one of the first major M-rated titles for the Nintendo Gamecube. While not official as of yet, to learn that it may finally getting a well-deserved sequel has us all sorts of happy.
We’ll bring you more details on this as they become available.
