I have repeatedly praised Eldritch for its engaging gameplay, neat art-style and great atmosphere, but very few people seemed to share my excitement for the Lovecraft-themed action-RPG. I was worried about whether or not the game had managed to generate some profit for Minor Key Games, but according to a blog post on designer David Pittman’s blog wherein the entire development process is explained, the game was a small success.
Aside from sharing the sales figures and profit margins, the post also explains how the project got started and how important decisions were made. Not everything went perfect for the team, however, as some of the mistakes and regrets are also highlighted, including an entire section where David explains why calling the game a “beta” when it was actually content-complete was not very smart.
David also puts in his two cents on the recent Youtube debacle and praises how Let’s Players helped him boost the game’s popularity on Greenlight. All in all, it’s a very in-depth and complete post, so if you are into game-design or like to know the history behind the video games you love, then I can definitely recommend reading it.
