Edmund McMillen, the creator behind such games as Super Meat Boy and the recently released The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, appeared on a Vinesauce stream to talk about the game and one topic that came up was the recent datamining that exposed Rebirth‘s secrets.
While I am not one to listen to podcasts and streams that go on for hours (no disrespect to our very own “Whispers in the Dark”), a post on Reddit neatly sums up the discussion that was had between Edmund, Tyrone Rodriguez from Nicalis, and the host.
Essentially, people delved into the game’s files, which allowed them to find secrets that were intended to elude gamers for months and took the developers weeks to implement. Edmund was particularly angry, poiting out how gamers could have had a great long-lasting experience, but instead went for instant-gratification and then went on to spoil it for everyone else. Tyrone still seemed motivated to beat the miners, but McMillen has given up and refuses to put in this much effort again.
