E3 2018: First Gameplay of Overkill’s The Walking Dead Drops

The long-awaited The Walking Dead game from Overkill — Overkill’s The Walking Dead as it’s being called — has remained elusive for years. Today, we finally get a public glimpse at some gameplay. If you were expecting a more visceral, modernized Left 4 Dead, you aren’t far off.

Overkill’s The Walking Dead looks to be a bit like Dying Light co-op mixed with Left 4 Dead. There’s stealth mechanics, brutal finisher kills, and, of course, hordes. The animations are a little janky, but Overkill has until November 6th to polish those out when the game releases on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Vermintide 2 is a great alternative to Left 4 Dead, but here’s hoping Overkill’s The Walking Dead scratches that itch a little better. Zombies never get old, after all. And its cast of survivors could also potentially charm us with their world-weary wit.
