It’s been a while since we last saw Clementine at the end of Telltale’s The Walking Dead: Season 2. Now she’s finally returning when the series’ third season premieres this fall.
We don’t know much, but we have a decent amount of information based on the game’s debut trailer that was released yesterday. Right off the bat, we have an older Clementine, confirmed to be in her early teens, and a brand new character named Javier. Telltale has confirmed that both characters will be playable throughout the season, which tells a story close to the current timeline of the ongoing comic book series. But who exactly is Javier? And does he have a connection to the zombie we see in the trailer?
After watching the trailer a few times, I noticed how the zombie and Javier both share similar-looking tattoos. Javier has it on his neck, while the zombie has it on his back. Javier even tells Clementine how the zombie is marked.
There’s a possibility that Javier is a survivor of a group of people that have been branded. And while all of this is speculation, of course, it’s also possible that that whoever is responsible for the branding might also have had a hand in severing Clementine’s ring finger.
At first I thought Clementine might have gotten bit on her finger, forcing herself to remove it. But, I think it goes beyond that. It seems like it was a deliberate act of punishment perhaps, especially seeing as how it’s her ring finger. Clementine has already been robbed of her childhood, and now it seems someone has symbolically robbed her of potential marriage.
