Techland, developer of the Dead Island series, have just released a new trailer for their upcoming game, Dying Light. Dying Light‘s “Humanity” trailer shows off a surprisingly interesting and motivating story: that of retaining one’s humanity in a world conquered by the living dead. We’ve seen this theme almost played to death in the zombie genre as of late, with titles like The Last of Us and The Walking Dead, but I was not expecting Dying Light to appear so narrative focused since Techland’s previous zombie series had a pretty poor story. The trailer successfully hit some emotional notes and has grabbed my attention.
The trailer shows off a lot of gameplay (both day and night), and displays the hardships that survivors must endure – even children. The dangers of the zombie world are told to us through a monologue by a pretty sad sounding fellow. Shots of some action scenes, such as a rooftop jump over a swarm of huddled undead and a survivor being held down to cut off his bitten arm, are among the clips we’re given.
After this trailer, I can’t help but admit that I’m quite interested in Dying Light, now. I’m looking forward to its release later this year.
