Dying Light looks amazing, new gameplay video released

If you are a fan of the zombie apocalypse genre, you have probably heard of Dying Light. If you haven’t, you need to bring it under your radar fast. For those that don’t know, Dying Light is a 1st-person action horror game where you play as a survivor venturing out during the day to collect supplies in a zombified wasteland. In This 12 minute peek at alpha gameplay, we’ll see more of what’s to come, the freerun mechanics seen previously, plus several new ones, and new enemies.

One of the big differences that separates Dying light from TechLand’s previous zombie game Dead Island, is a set of parkour skills ala Mirror’s Edge. Players will use these skills to navigate through zombie infested environments to scavenge for supplies while keeping an eye out for other survivors and enemy groups. It seems that choices made by the player will also affect gameplay as seen when the player chooses to investigate a noise in the video. This results in him saving a little girl that could otherwise have been left to die.

Some aspects of the game are being seen for the first time here, like the ability to look back over your shoulder in bullet time and the dangers of being out at night. At night stealth becomes a crucial gameplay element, where players  must use the “nightsense” ability to avoid the “awoken” and other more hostile zombies types. This bit of gameplay does give a better look into what the game has to offer. Techland ramping up their work with Dead Island by adding Mirror’s Edge parkour to the mix and less linear mission design seems like a fantastic direction that could very well lead to a great game.
