It should absolutely come as no surprise to anyone that Doom: The Dark Ages will perpetuate that signature high-octane action we’ve come to know over the years. However, for those who actually wouldn’t mind something of a story, we’ll definitely be getting lashings of that, as evidenced in the new trailer.
Maybe most of us are only in it for the thrill of pulverizing the denizens of hell, but the latest teaser does show some of the upcoming game’s more narrative side. We get to witness more of the Doom Slayer, donned in medieval attire, as he hacks his way through his enemies. We don’t get a full breakdown on what the story will be, but there’s definitely a sense of some powerful force we’ll be up against.
DOOM: The Dark Ages launches on May 15.
Preorder the Premium Edition for up to two days early access and lots more content!— Bethesda (@bethesda.net) 21 April 2025 at 01:07
It seems Doom: The Dark Ages is aiming for more backstory in this instalment, which could split the fanbase. Personally, I really liked the fact that Doom (2016) put you in the boots of the Slayer for a return to form, with nary a care for what was happening all around us. Eternal did want us to understand more about the Slayer and his history, so it stands to reason that the new game – being a prequel – will want a little more story to go with all that violence.
If you’re interested, there are three editions up for grabs when the game releases: Standard, Premium, and Collector’s Bundle. All will come with a copy of the base game (natch) and a special Slayer skin for pre-orders. The Premium Edition will also come with two-day early access and the DLC when that launches. Same for the Collector’s Bundle, but you’ll also get a 12″ statue and a metal red key card replica.
Doom: The Dark Ages releases on May 15 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, as well as Game Pass. You can pre-order the game here. Check out the new story trailer below.
