It’s fair to say that DOOM Eternal has enjoyed great success with critics and players alike, so it’s not surprising that id Software is about to roll out a new game mode soon.
The update, which is aptly titled version 6.66, will include an all-new game mode called “Horde Mode.” We recently reported on id software shifting its focus in favor of this single-player project and dropping their previous plans of an invasion-based mode. Update 6.66 will also include BATTLEMODE 2.0, sporting a new arena, new streak-based rewards, two additional Master Levels, and more.
The idea to implement an arcade-style horde mode initially came from the game’s very active community. Reactions to the announcement by the game’s fanbase have so far been very positive, hailing id for listening to their fans.
DOOM Eternal‘s Horde Mode update will be out on October 26th, 2021, so buckle up!
Additionally, if you want to see Horde Mode in action, you’re in luck. DOOM Eternal game director Hugo Martin, along with id Software community manager Tokyopunchout, played the update in a recent sneak-peek stream on Bethesda’s Twitch and YouTube channels.
