My Dante. My dear, sweet Dante. He returns to me yet again, leaving me last with a desire for more. A heartbreaker he is, for our time together was too brief. But I digress, for my love clouds by judgement and his majesty blinds me.

Capcom has just announced that Ninja Theory’s divisive DmC: Devil May Cry is coming to current-gen platforms. The DmC: Definitive Edition will be hitting the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on March 17, 2015. The game will be receiving quite the few improvements, some actually fan-made and influenced.

As expected, DmC: Definitive Edition will finally bring the 60fps version of the game to consoles, at full 1080p resolution with all existing DLC included. Improved textures should also be expected, but the real treat come in the form of a lot of new game modes and features. Turbo Mode makes a series return, making the game 20% faster; Hardcord Mode toggles the game’s balancing to be akin to classic Devil May Cry; Must Style Mode makes enemies susceptible to damage only when an S-rank is in progress; and lastly, Gods Must Die mode is the game’s new hardest difficulty, where no health items can be used and enemies spawn with their own Devil Triggers active.

Two new skins are being added: Dante’s outfit from the original Devil May Cry and Vergil’s from DMC3. Vergil will also have his own Bloody Palace mode, which comes from a popular fan mod. A manual lock-on has also been added to appease old fans, and an overall rebalancing for the entire game has been done as an answer to feedback from the community. All of these additions and more are part of the DmC: Definitive Edition package on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, which will be sold for $39.99. There’s no word whether or not the skins, new modes, and balancing updates will be available on PC.

And last but not least, Capcom has also revealed that Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition is coming to current-gen consoles. No additional details have been made, such as whether or not it will receive a visual upgrade, but we know that it exists. Perhaps Capcom is doing this as a test to see which Devil May Cry series is more popular? Interesting.

As much as Ninja Theory’s comments upset Devil May Cry fans prior to the release of their reboot, I still think this game deserves some recognition. It’s not a whole like the original series, but it’s damn good regardless. This might lead to some angry comments, but I still hope to see a DmC sequel one day. I had a lot of fun with this game, and I hope some new people do too.

Critically Acclaimed Action Game DmC Devil May Cry Sees Return of Demon Brothers Dante and Vergil with Additional Content in 2015
SAN MATEO, Calif. — December 15, 2014 — Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that DmC Devil May Cry™: Definitive Edition will be available to purchase as a digital download and at retail across Europe and North America for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, starting March 17, 2015 for an MSRP of $39.99 / €39.99. Devil May Cry® 4 Special Edition will be available for PlayStation®4 and Xbox One in Summer 2015.

Developed by Ninja Theory, DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition will include the original stylish action game, all previously released downloadable content, including the “Vergil’s Downfall” campaign as well as brand new modes and additional gameplay features, making this the ultimate offering for Devil May Cry® fans.

New to DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition, players will be able to play as Dante’s twin brother himself in Vergil’s Bloody Palace Mode. For an extra depth of challenge, players will be able to try out the added Gods Must Die difficulty level and Must Style Mode as well as Hardcore Mode, which has been designed to play more like the classic Devil May Cry series. DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition players will also receive new Dante and Vergil costumes inspired by classic Devil May Cry character designs. The game’s high quality production values will run at a stunning 1080p and smooth 60 fps across both next-gen consoles.

Balancing and improvements based on fan feedback from DmC Devil May Cry™ are being implemented into DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition, as well as modifiers that can be turned on at various stages, including Turbo Mode which allows players to increase the speed of play for even faster, more intense combat. Additional leaderboards, trophies and achievements will be included, as well as social features, taking advantage of both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One functionality.

DmC Devil May Cry sees Dante’s origin story being retold against a contemporary backdrop. Dante is a young man with no respect for authority or society in general. He knows that he is not human, but also that he is not like the demons that have tormented him throughout his life. Caught between worlds, he feels like an outcast. Thanks to his twin brother Vergil, leader of the anti-establishment group “The Order”, Dante is now discovering and coming to terms with what it means to be the child of a demon and an angel. Combat and movement throughout the game are influenced by Dante’s ability to call upon both angel and demon abilities, dramatically affecting the gameplay style.
