Today marks the Devil May Cry series’ 10 year anniversary. Yeah, it’s crazy to think about how it’s actually been a decade since the original game hit the Playstation 2. It really hasn’t felt like it’s been that long, but hey, time moves in mysterious ways. So, what better way to celebrate the series, and Dante’s birthday than by announcing an HD collection of the first three games. And that’s exactly what Capcom has done.
Set to release in early 2012 for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, priced at $39.99, the Devil May Cry HD Collection will put “Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2, and Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening Special Edition together in one high definition package for the first time.” So, no, this isn’t the same HD treatment that Capcom gave Resident Evil 4 and CODE: Veronica X, for us here in the US at least, since we got those two games digitally. Capcom is actually releasing this via retailers in what seems to be a true HD remastering of these three games. For some visual proof of this, Capcom has released a screen from the first game and then one from the HD version:
Now that right there is an HD revival! Yeah, it may not be entirely on par with current visuals nowadays but still, it’s a drastic visual enhancement that will definitely serve to make this trip back to the first game even better. There isn’t an official trailer for this HD collection yet, but I suspect it’ll be coming sooner rather than later. Also, it’s pretty much guaranteed that this will be solely on one disc for the Playstation 3, but judging by the Biohazard Revival Selection over in Japan, it may span three discs on the 360. So, are you excited?
