Fucking great. To most people, Depth will probably look like a fun multiplayer romp beneath the waves. To me, this humans vs. sharks simulator is a cocktail of briney horror served with a garnish of terrifying childhood memories. You’re like, “I get to harpoon sharks! Hell yeah!” or “I can wake up and get down with the sharkness!” while I’m shitting my pants in an icy sweat. STOP LAUGHING AT ME. Playing as a human, you’re going to have to rely on your teammates, so it’s basically an underwater Evolve, except the shark can’t level up into a demon shark (oh no please no don’t let that happen). The Great Whites will certainly have the speed and strength advantage, along with the scary teeth advantage. Whimper.
The IndieDB page hasn’t been active since 2012, but Adam Dodd of Bloody-Disgusting.com has it on good authority that Depth will be rising from the watery abyss to Steam Early Access. If he’s wrong, we’ll hunt him down. Until we hear more, I’ll be kind-of sort-of hoping the project doesn’t come to fruition. At the same time, I wish the developers the best, and maybe I’ll be able to face my fears. Either way, you just know CJ will make me stream this.
