Hideo Kojima officially announced Death Stranding 2 at The Game Awards 2022. The sequel to Kojima’s magnum opus of weird also got a teaser trailer.
In traditional batshit crazy fashion, the new trailer raised more questions than it answered, but was a blast to watch, nevertheless. The sequel sees the return of Léa Seydoux as Fragile, now caring for an infant, and a grey-haired Norman Reedus as protagonist Sam Porter Bridges being recruited back into the action. The game also stars Troy Baker, Elle Fanning, and Shioli Kutsuna.
Speaking to the TGA host, Geoff Keighley, Kojima talked about how the pandemic affected the game, saying:
I had the story written before the pandemic, but after experiencing the pandemic, I rewrote the whole thing from scratch. I also didn’t want to predict any more future, so I rewrote it.
Kojima also teased that:
I put a lot of things inside [the trailer] so I want you guys to talk about it and find details in it.
I was absolutely blown away by the first Death Stranding, and gave it an 8.5/10. I have no doubt the sequel will push things even further and expand the fascinating sci-fi horror world established in the original.
Kojima Productions will be releasing Death Stranding 2 for PlayStation 5. No release date has yet been set.
