Dead Space 3: Awakened DLC already announced

Just 2 hours after review embargo has lifted, EA has announced an expansion to Dead Space 3. Within a press release citing Dead Space 3′s critical acclaim, EA has announced that story DLC will be coming to Dead Space 3 in March. EA calls Awakened the “darkest chapters” and that we’ll see “Necromorph battles become even more gruesome and terrifying than ever before”. What does this mean? I don’t know, but hopefully it involves Lexine Murdoch from Dead Space: Extraction and Dead Space 2: Severed. I was very disappointed with Severed. It was just boring and filled with recycled maps. The tragic ending was OK, but Lexine’s powers has yet to be explained.

It’s fairly common to get DLC announced ahead of the release of the main game, these days. While it does leave a nasty taste in your mouth, especially with over $40 of day-1 DLC for the full game, I’m interested to see where the story goes in Awakened. For $10 (800MSP), it better be good.

As for Dead Space 3, expect the review later today or tomorrow. I’m working on it. It can’t be helped if there were too few people playing coop prior to release!

“With Dead Space 3 our goal was to evolve the franchise bringing in innovative new features like drop-in/drop-out co-op, weapon crafting, and an engaging atmosphere while still retaining the incredible suspense, horror, action and sound that the series is known for,” said Steve Papoutsis, Vice President and General Manager of Visceral Games and Executive Producer on Dead Space 3. “Gamers are going to be thrown in and out of space, taken to a violent new ice planet and allowed to explore several different abandoned spaceships and caves.
