Destructoid have posted a rather interesting hands-on preview of Dead Space 2’s DLC on their site. To check it, click here. They don’t give anything away about the story (thankfully for those who want to experience the two chapters themselves) but they do say the following details about the gameplay:
-The DLC is much more action-oriented than the main game even, though fitting with the security guard motif of returning Dead Space hero, Gabriel.
-There are new types of enemies, they speak of the return of the Twitcher who they hint is as nasty as ever, as well as enemies that aren’t Necromorphs but wouldn’t comment more on it. Speculation would lead to crazed humans like we saw in Extraction though.
-Gabriel starts with a Pulse Rifle and Seeker Rifle though he can get any weapons from the main game in the shop and upgrade them from scratch at workbenches.
-The suit, however, cannot be upgraded nor will you find any new suits while playing through Severed (though you can use suits you purchased through DLC packs)
-The DLC is about 50/50 on new and old content. Gabriel will explore new areas as well as areas Isaac has also explored.
-The DLC takes place around the same time as Dead Space 2, except the two heroes are going in opposite directions. Gabriel starts off in Titan Mine and makes his way to the Hospital. Gabriel is at Titan Mine about six hours before Isaac gets there and at the hospital about six hours after Isaac was there, and the change in time frame changes the areas a lot; For Gabe Titan Mines is where he’s at when the outbreak begins while the Hospital is when it’s been there for several hours, which reflects in both as they have to deal with different threats even if they’ve been to some of the same rooms.
-You will be overwhelmed by enemy attack waves a lot more in this DLC, much more intense.
-The total length of the DLC should be about a couple hours.
-Visceral would not comment on a PC release.
