The survival horror genre is no stranger to having its games be adapted into novelizations. Whether it be prequel novels or ones providing a more “filling in the gaps” affair, we’ve seen a good number of adaptations of our favorite horror franchises. So, enter: Dead Island.
The game was, like the unfortunate souls now roaming the game’s island as zombies, resurrected with one hell of an emotional trailer. Hell, said trailer was so successful with its impact that it served as the major inspiration for fantasy/horror author, Mark Morris to write a book based on the upcoming zombified tropical shooter, as the man himself states:
“Having marveled, like the rest of the world, at the stunning trailer earlier this year, I absolutely leaped at the opportunity to write the official Dead Island tie-in novel. This is a rich, exotic world of well-conceived characters, stunning locations and all-out zombie mayhem. What really attracted me to the project, however, was the fact that behind the nonstop action is a complex and multi-layered plot. I’m hugely excited and massively honoured to be a part of the Dead Island phenomenon.”
The novel, appropriately titled Dead Island: The Book, will loosely follow the events of the game, as well as the main characters players will be taking the roles of once the game launches on September 6th. Speaking of which, the book will be released on the same day the game is released in Europe (which is September 8th). No official word on an American release date yet, but we’re quite confident that it’ll be hitting close to our dedicated launch day as well. You can check out the awesome cover for the book below.
So, what say you? Will you be picking up the book to complement the game on the platform of your choice?
