Dead Island 2 has been AWOL for a while now, but today it has been announced that development is still underway. The developer previously attached was Yager, of Spec Ops: The Line fame. I was initially pretty intrigued to see what they could do after their work on Spec Ops and it’s unique and interesting take on storytelling, but they were sadly dropped last year.
Instead, UK-based developer Sumo Digital have announced that they are working on the project. You know, the guys behind such hits as LittleBigPlanet 3, Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing, and Nike+ Kinect Training. Yeah, doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence, however, the team at Sumo Digital are clearly diverse and we are yet to see anything from their work – so it’s best to hold fire on too much judgment for now. Sumo apparently showed a lot of passion and similar ideas said Koch Media CEO Dr Klemens Kundratitz speaking to MCV.
It just made perfect sense for us to move the project to them. We will reveal more details at a later stage, but for now, I’d like to say that we are obviously super excited about the progress that we are making with them. It’s an honour to be charged with the evolution of such an important franchise in Deep Silver’s catalogue,” said Sumo COO Paul Porter. “We’re looking forward to exceeding fan expectation with an ambitious design that we’re confident will take bone-crunching, visceral, zombie action to a whole new level.”
It’s certainly interesting to see what these ideas are and hopefully, it will have some presence at E3. Dead Island 2 was originally meant to release last year but now holds a rough “2016” release date.
