DayZ Standalone Celebrates One Year of Release

Bohemia Interactive’s DayZ Standalone has been available for one full year as of yesterday. The zombie survival MMO released on Steam Early Access on December 16, 2013, and has since grown to become one of the platforms most successful releases and a game with a strong community. The team is celebrating the game’s one year of release with some words from the game’s new Project Lead, David Durcak, and a video of the team’s fond memories during important milestones.

“Firstly, I’d like to thank Dean Hall for leading the team for the past two years, and I wish him the best with his new studio. The growth of the DayZ team over the past 12 months will be integral to the prolonged success of the game. With the additional team members, we hope that throughout the upcoming year we will be able to create more content and a deeper experience for the DayZ audience. Plus, it will also enable us to significantly improve the technology for the standalone, and polish the features that we have. All in all, it is our goal to create the best experience we can, in terms of frame rate, visual quality and the overall gameplay,” wrote Durcak.

Additionally, an updated development roadmap has been released detailing what the team hopes to begin working on and releasing throughout 2015. Some noticeable features being the new game renderer in Q1 2015, character lifespans + skills in Q3, and Steam workshop support in Q4.

It’s been a fun year of DayZ; 380 hours and counting for me. Here’s hoping it only gets better.
