Before “Lovecraft-inspired” became the popular marketing blurb it is today, there were games like Call of Cthulhu and Alone in the Dark (the original) that actually understood what made a Lovecraft setting so intriguing. One interesting franchise from those old days is about to return to the spotlight, as a remake of Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder is set to release on Steam today.
This title from 2007 was made by a Turkish studio called “Zoetrope Interactive” and is distributed by Iceberg Interactive, who are also responsible for other dark games like Dark Fall: Lost Souls and the controversial Dark Matter. This version of the game will feature Steam Achievements and comes with updated visuals.
While this is great news, even more exciting is that Zoetrope and Iceberg will follow this game up with a Director’s Cut of the game’s sequel, 2010’s Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage. While a precise release date was not provided, it is said to come out in “a few weeks”.
