NIS America has revealed that the incredibly disturbing-yet-charming Danganronpa series has sold over 200,000 copies on the PlayStation Vita in the West. NIS America CEO Takuro Yamashita revealed these figures to MCV. “Combined sales of the first two Danganronpa titles – Trigger Happy Havoc and Goodbye Despair – now total more than 200,000 across Europe and the US,” said Yamashita. “That’s just on PS Vita – it’s quite an impressive number.”
Impressive indeed considering the PlayStation Vita’s relatively low sales figures. With this series doing so well in the western market, Yamashita credits Danganronpa as the start of a trend of more demand for localized visual novels from westerners. Personally, I’d definitely say Danganronpa warmed me up to the genre.
Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, the action spinoff set between the first and second game in the series, is expected to release later this year on the PlayStation Vita. Check out our interview with Danganronpa producer Yoshinori Terasawa while you wait.
