We’ve seen a lot of old first-person shooters reappear on Steam and Good Old Games lately. It all started with the Doom 3: BFG Edition and soon reboots and remakes like Rise of the Triad and Shadow Warrior followed in its wake. It seems only fitting that the game that eventually killed the genre was resurrected as well.
Okay, perhaps “killed the genre” is a bit of an exaggeration, but you’ll have to put in some serious effort to find genuinely positive reviews on Daikatana, which combined with the ridiculous amount of marketing and work that was put into this title, has made it one of gaming’s most legendary flops. It also contributed heavily to the closure of Ion Storm and even John Romero’s career hasn’t been the same since.
So, if you wish to find out for yourself how bad this game was, then you can do so on Steam now, for the lowly price of $6. For those outside of the states, I recommend obtaining the game from Good Old Games instead (who already started selling the game in February), which also offers it for $6, but doesn’t change the price depending on your region.
