Oh boy, this actually sounds pretty interesting.
Just announced, GTFO (winner of the least subtle title next to 2002’s RLH: Run Like Hell) looks to be delivering a harder-core co-op horror experience than we’ve seen of late. Co-Op or otherwise online horror games have been all the rage as of late, with the recent Friday the 13th, last year’s Dead by Daylight, and more coming, it isn’t a surprise to see something trying to one up them. What is a surprise is the pedigree the developer, 10 Chambers Directive, holds. Made up of former Overkill Software devs, it also includes Payday: The Heist’s designer, Ulf Andersson. Describing the game, Simon Viklund (the game’s composer) says:
“Every expedition in GTFO is unique and the game lets you make informed decisions on what equipment and weapons to bring — but even then survival is not guaranteed, GTFO throws so many curveballs and unknown factors at you that you and your team always have to stay on your toes — and the atmosphere is suffocatingly tense.”
There’s also a teaser trailer showing off the aforementioned “suffocatingly tense” atmosphere. Fingers crossed, Payday and its sequel were heralded as being gamers games (aside from some shadiness with microtransactions in the latter), so fingers crossed for the same level of quality in this.
