Recently it was announced that the survival horror RPG Chernobylite will be getting a PS4 and Xbox One release on September 7th. Along with the release date, the studio has uploaded a new trailer for the game. The footage switches between the real Chernobyl locations the story is set in and the digitized versions that exist in the game, showing off just how much work the development team has put into the environments.
This is probably not too surprising given that just last month a developer from The Farm 51 gave an interview in which they discussed the painstaking detail the studio went into in order to realistically recreate the areas within Chernobylite. By collecting photos, videos and 3D scans, the team has been able to faithfully produce an impressively accurate facsimile of the infamous Ukrainian disaster site.
It’s a game that we at Rely on Horror have been keeping an eye on for some time now, and it’s looking like it’s going to be an interesting horror experience. It promises a blend of sci-fi horror with RPG elements, set in an inhospitable part of the world.
The story involves the player taking on the role of Igor, a physicist who returns to the ruined power plant of Chernobyl to investigate the mysterious disappearance of his fiancé, some thirty years ago.
Chernobylite will feature the following:
- Non-Linear Storytelling & Strategy – No playthrough is the same. The choices and story are in your hands. Choose wisely whether to trust your comrades or not, use resources for survival or research, and to face conflicts or avoid them. The future is up to you.
- Stealth, Survival, & Combat – Survival in the Zone is not easy, and each day brings new challenges as your comrades die and supplies diminish. Avoid detection with stealth takedowns or engage in open-armed combat. Danger lurks around every corner.
- Base Building & Crafting – Construct a base from which to plan your daily operations and excursions. Utilize workstations to craft gadgets, traps, and weapons, or modify existing equipment to your needs.
- Resource & Team Management – Companions are key to your survival and the resolution of your journey. Each day requires careful planning and assignment of resources and tasks to your comrades.
Chernobylite sounds like it’s going to offer up a lot, so let’s hope it can live up to the expectations, especially given the photorealistic environments. The PC, Xbox Series S|X, and PS5 ports of the game are due out on July 28th, so there’s a bit of time between these and the Xbox One and PS4 versions. We’ll keep you posted if further details are announced.
