Sony has recently announced that they’re bringing select PSP games over to the Playstation 3. They won’t just be mere ports, though. Sony has promised that this new initiative, titled the Playstation Portable Remaster Series, will see PSP titles (that make the cut) get a full-on PS3 treatment, meaning: Trophy support, 3D support, HD, as well as shared game saves between both your PSP and PS3.
Monster Hunter Portable 3rd will be leading the charge, with it being announced as the first title under this new initiative in Japan. And currently there’s been a lot of rumors circulating, rightfully so, about Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker also making the jump to the PS3. So, having said all that, it’s time to chime in with my personal pick for a PSP title that should be granted a new life on Sony’s blu-ray powered console.
And, of course, the game I would love to see get the PS3 treatment is none other than Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles. Surprised?
The game serves as a complete remake of the classic PC Engine title, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Not only that, but Dracula X Chronicles (not to be confused with the SNES ‘vania Dracula X, which was a stripped down version of Rondo’) also included two unlockable games: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. This gave ‘vania fans and interested PSP owners three classic games for the price of one. It also gave fans of the franchise the complete Rondo of Blood story, due to its sequel, Symphony of the Night, also being included.
So how would this transition to the PS3 benefit Dracula X Chronicles and ‘vania fans in general? Well, for starters, it’ll result in a beautiful 2.5D ‘vania experience bathed in HD visuals. That in itself would be quite remarkable, seeing as how it doesn’t seem like we’re going to be getting an original full-fledged sidescrolling ‘vania title on the PS3 anytime soon.
So basically it’ll be an HD remake of a handheld 2.5D remake of one of the greatest Castlevania games of all time, that also includes yet another one of the greatest ‘vania titles as an unlockable. Yes, please, Konami.
