Even though the IFMCA (International Film Music Critics Association) recognizes the best movie scores, that doesn’t mean they ignore the music from our favorite form of interactive entertainment.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow has just earned a nomination for ” Best Original Score for a Video Game or Interactive Media”. The soundtrack’s, very talented composer, Oscar Araujo, has also earned a righteous nomination for “Breakout Composer of the Year”.
Both of these nominations, related to Lords of Shadow’s score, are truly earned despite what complaints people may have over the soundtrack sounding too Lords of the Rings-esque instead of gothic or eerie. Fans of the franchise may have also been upset to notice the lack of a substantial amount of classic music. But what is in Lords of Shadow’s soundtrack is truly aural magic. Especially ” Gabriel’s Theme” which is one of the best video game compositions I’ve heard in quite a while.
