Gamelab Conference 2011 will be kicking off its festivities on June 29th and it’ll last until July 1st. The event will be taking place in Barcelona and awards will be given to recognize games made by Spanish developers. And among the list of nominees is none other than MercurySteam’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid), Peter Molyneux (Fable) and Cliff Bleszinski (Gears of War) will draft the future of interactive entertainment at an unprecedented professional and cultural European encounter
June 13, 2011 – From June 29th to July 1st Barcelona will become Europe’s videogame capital as the host city of Gamelab Conference 2011. In its seventh year, the annual Spanish Game Conference, one of the fastest growing events on interactive culture and industry in Europe, will gather some of the most influential creators of the videogame world.
The Japanese creator of the Metal Gear Solid saga, Hideo Kojima; British father of the so-called “God games” Peter Molyneux; and the American designer Cliff Bleszinski, one of the industry’s “enfants terribles” and creator of the worldwide success Gears of War, together create an unprecedented line-up for the European Game conference. Gamelab Conference will also feature notable figures such as the visionary founder of Electronic Arts and Digital Chocolate, Trip Hawkins; the historical founder of Westwood Studios and current Vice President of Zynga, Louis Castle; the controversial designer, ex-IdSoftware, American McGee, and virtual world’s pioneer Richard Bartle.
All speakers will review the main trends in the interactive entertainment industry and will analyze the influence of videogames in other cultural industries and their consumption. The massive success of online entertainment portals, the spread of audiovisual content in consoles’ digital stores, the payment platforms associated to the different devices, the market of virtual goods, free2play and gamification are all revolutionary business and consumption initiatives. They have consolidated thanks to the success of the videogame industry, and other cultural industries are now following.
To complement the series of conferences, Gamelab Conference 2011 will also host an extensive schedule of parallel events to promote professional networking, as well as bringing videogames to the general public. The schedule includes round tables, networking areas and the Ceremony of the Academy of the Arts and Interactive Science, interactive and artistic exhibitions, contests, etc. All events and activities will be available in both Spanish and English, with simultaneous interpreting.
These awards intend to recognize the talent of Spanish designers in the industry of videogames. The list of nominees include Castlevania: Lords of Shadows (MercurySteam), Millionaire City (Digital Chocolate Barcelona), Invizimals: Shadow Zone (Novarama), Battlefield Bad Company 2 (Digital Legends), Play English (Tonika Games), Basket Dudes (BiToon) and Motion Sports (Ubisoft Barcelona)
