Since the demo for Mercury Steam’s Castlevania Lords of Shadow is only available to PS+ users in Europe, eager players elsewhere on the globe have to rely on European PS+ users to get the lowdown on the just-released demo. Here’s a nicely detailed post by user Lord_Yggdrassil on Gamefaqs:
ok Impressions, positives and Negatives about the DEMO only. Overall i think this is one of the better demos i’ve played recently.
Positives
+ Combat is fluent, fast paced. Although not on NG’s level it’s still very intuitive and isn’t clunky at all.
+ Controls are suprisingly good…the L2 dodge is actually decent…you move with the LS so dodging with L2 makes it simple. Although i would prefered L1.
+ Graphics are amazing, and this is only a demo.
+ Music is also awe-inspiring
+ Story looks like it will be epic.
+ challenging as well although i did play on hard knight mode.
+ decent tutorials tells you about the basic combat mechanics and how the upgrade system works..you basically purchase moves like other games once you’ve obtained enough souls or whatever their called.Negatives
– Frame rate kinda dropped in the first area..i mean the rain effects were awesome but that place looked like it was running slower than the other areas…again only a demo.
– Demo was way too short..i paid 11.99 For THIS??? /lol joke. But seriously i enjoyed that. I love the music in this game SO much, it just makes everything so much better. I think CV games have always had great music and this game is no different. Although it’s only a demo and it’s quite short it does a good job of giving you a good feel on the atmosphere.
I know nothing about how the game will turn out in terms of exploration/open ended levels though. Maybe it’s linear but i hope there are areas which you can roam around and it isn’t as linear as say GoW.
Ifi had to compare it to another action game i can’t do it to anything but GoW. Both games are similar in more ways than not. CV’s combat is a lot less button mash focused compared to Gow though,
All in all looks great. I haven’t changed my mind abotu getting this game, still waiting on that damn CE to be listed.
